Bill Ackman wants to shut down America but is he requesting the shutdown of common sense?
The science remains divided over the right approach to tackle this global pandemic.
Some medical experts argue that the best way to tackle COVID-19 is for the healthy population to be exposed to the virus so that their immune systems can build antibodies to fight the virus. They argue that an epidemic would accelerate herd immunity against the virus.
Some leaders have likened the virus to a nation being at war.
But war means a fight and lock-down is like waving the white flag every time someone near and dear to you falls to the virus. So one view is that we need to engage this virus to build up antibodies. The herd immunity view to tackling the virus has a Darwinian survival of the fittest idea as it would most likely lead to high death rates, but also a faster recovery. The surviving population would be younger, healthier, their genes would continue through human reproduction and the nation’s gene pool would be elevated.
Ethically some people might have an issue with the methodology of getting over it and soldiering on as it could result in high death rates.

But he is appealing, emotion in nature is not backed up by science.
The jury is still out among the medical experts as to whether shutting down society is the best way to fight this war. Apart from the huge disruption, a lock-down would have on the economy no evidence forcing people under house arrest, curfews would work in combating the virus. Is this a creep into a totalitarian state?
Freedom once given cannot be taken away. Moreover, if COVID-19 were a terrorist people would be arguing that we are not going to let it disrupt our freedom, liberty, and democracies.
