Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency, noting that the Democrat candidate for the 2024 presidency could be less left leaning than the consensus thinking.
Ray Dalio revealed his insights in a recent blog entitled,
“Kamala Harris’s Ideological Leanings are Starting to Emerge,” dated August 2024.
A Democrat Kamala Harris presidency could be a reality following the September 10 presidential debate where even political opponents admitted Hariis outperformed Trump in the September debate.
See the Trump Harris debate highlights where Harris rattled Trump, with the latter coming across as angry, which is human, bearing in mind an assassination attempt on his life. Harris comes across as composed, intelligent, and eloquent.
Trump’s campaign made a strategic move for no more debates with Harris, which could be wise. But it may not be enough.
There is a sign of a post-debate bounce for Harris, with the Democrat candidate already gaining about one percentage point nationwide since the debate.
The wildcard forTrump is the voter’s reaction to a second assassination attempt, which could deflect the campaign away from the debate and potentially put an early dent in Harris’s bounce.

Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency is timely
Despite the second assassination attempt on Trump, Harris, the latest polls show her one point leading Trump.
“As you probably know, I think that while it is clear that Donald Trump represents the hard right (ultra-conservative, fundamentalist, nationalist) and Kamala Harris represents the left (liberal, progressive, globalist), it is not yet clear how far left Kamala Harris is,” wrote Ray Dalio.
Ray Dalio noted that from studying the history of previous political debates, both campaign leaders for the presidency are in a constant battle with trying to keep the party united by appealing to a broad spectrum of political ideologies on their party side.
“I know that there is always a battle in each party between the moderates and the extremists who stay united when they are fighting the common enemy until they win, and then they fight each other for control,” wrote Ray Dalio.
So the candidates are in a two-front battle, internally to keep the party united and externally to appear moderate enough to appeal to a critical majority for an election win.
“I also know that at this stage in the electoral process, those on both sides (the Republican right and the Democratic left) should look as moderate as possible because they already have the extremists on their side, and they need to appeal to the swing voters who are more moderate,” wrote Ray Dalio.

Will Harris lean towards the moderates or extremists is how Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency
“But in doing so, they still have to make decisions they can not reverse after the election and I know that the two factions (the moderates and the extremists in their parties) are pressuring them to make decisions more aligned with their respective ideologies. For that reason, I am always looking at the ideologies of the potential leaders fighting for leadership positions to observe whether they align more with the moderates or extremists of their parties,” wrote Ray Dalio.
Ray Dalio believes knowing the presidential hopeful’s ideologies is even more important than knowing them. “If the leaders fall, the ideologies will remain, and new leaders who represent those ideologies will rise to replace them,” he wrote.
For this reason, Ray Dalio believes that knowing the party’s ideology is better for forecasting policy than knowing the ideology of its leader.
“The ideologies desired are a much stronger force than the individuals chosen (though both will matter). Anyway, the choices the most senior leaders make, like Kamala Harris’schoice for vice president, are indicative,” he wrote.
“While there is no doubt that Kamala Harris is an effective candidate for several reasons, including being smart, articulate, and with a beaming smile that she always has on, the big, important question is what will be the main ideology she will represent” – Ray Dalio
Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency leaning more left
“The fact that she chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who is considered “progressive” (which is more far left) rather than any of the more moderate candidates for VP is considered an indicator that she, and those who support her, are leaning more left than moderate left,” he wrote.
But Ray Dalio also noted that this may not be yet enough to be conclusive.
“While there is no doubt that Kamala Harris is an effective candidate for several reasons, including being smart, articulate, and with a beaming smile that she always has on, the big, important question is what will be the main ideology she will represent. From now until the election, we will learn more about how her (and those who support her) ideology compares with that of the other side. This is very important. I will be, and I am sure others will be, digging more into the decisions she has made, and other indicators of where she and the executive branch of government under her will stand. I know that, for me to make my choice, I will have to find this out,” he wrote.
“the Trump-Republican side represents a revolutionary, unconventional, counter-traditional (some would say kooky) approach. While the Harris-Democratic approach represents a continuation of the more traditional Democratic Party” – Ray Dalio
Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency as a continuity of progressivism, globalism and neo-conservatism with a hawkish foreign policy
Somehow, the progressive left has hooked up with neo-conservatives, making odd bedfellows.
Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency being more just of the same, with Trump Republicans leaning more on the kooky side
“There is another notable perceived difference between the Trump-Republican side and, the Harris-Democratic side. That is the Trump-Republican side represents a revolutionary, unconventional, counter-traditional (some would say kooky) approach. While the Harris-Democratic approach represents a continuation of the more traditional Democratic Party,” wrote Ray Dalio.
In short, Ray Dalio visualizes a Harris presidency, being no change in the status quo, pro-globalist, corporate favouritism and military interventionism, business as usual.
